Introductions

Please introduce yourself. You are encouraged, although not required, to use your real name.

I'm Katrina, one of the coordinators for Heading for Home, a very small rescue group based in the Macedon Ranges in Central Victoria.

We've been running for nearly three years now. Before that I was a volunteer for another rescue group, but control freak that I am, wanted to make my own decisions (and mistakes!).

Andrea from ACT Animal Rescue and Just Andrea (same name) on DOL.

Have been involved in rescue approaching my 10 th year now - a decade in June this year.

Have been involved in various roles in several groups including ARF (2003-2007), RAR (briefly before it was RADAR; 2007-2008), CPR (2008-2012) and just started my own rescue group at the end of 2012 - ACT Animal Rescue thanks to some wonderful and dedicated foster carers and supporters I have, whom I couldn't have done it without.

Nearly 3 months in and we have almost got our website up and running fully functionally with some stuff to add later, taking in large numbers of animals around ACT and surrounds, Riverina area and as far as Broken Hill as usual and working well with all the shelters and rescuers we have come to know and enjoy working with over the years.

Business as usual and its the business I don't think any of us unfortunately will ever be made redundant in. However, over the years I have seen a shift in at least attitudes to pound and shelter animals thanks to the positive experiences many people are generally having with rescue groups and more people are considering these animals suitable pets and rescue groups as as source of their next family member.

A trend that I hope continues.

Cheers,
A.

I am Dagmar Scherer and I started the Facebook Group "Boxer Rescue Network" a few weeks ago.
The Boxer Rescue Network is a new approach and it is booming!
We list boxers in need of a new home all over Australia and I am sure next week we will reach the 1000 member mark, all genuine boxer lovers. The boxers are listed in the photo album section (each dog has an own album) with a description and a link to where the dog can be found.

We basically provide a platform to give the dogs more exposure and interested people can then get in touch with the rescues directly.

So far I am happy to say that on average 1 of the listed dogs finds a new home per day!

I would like to invite everybody to join as well and if a boxer walks through your door, please let us know!

Welcome Andrea and Dagmar.

Spread the word about the forum, the more people here, the better we can learn and support each other. In the years we've been operating we've had wonderful support from other rescuers, I know there's a lot of politics, but that's only a small part of it. The rest is just fun working with people who are as passionate as you are and so willing to help.
